Important Info for Upcoming Election ~ 2019


Happy New Year to our Worth County Voters!  We are preparing for our upcoming election and are looking forward to a great turnout! The numbers of registered voters greatly increased these last two elections. From 12,187 voters to 12,647 for November.

DATES:

February 6-8, 2019~ Qualifying Candidates for Sheriff

February 5, 2019  ~ Board of Elections Meeting

February 19,2019 ~Voter Registration Deadline

February 25,2019 ~ Registrar may begin mailing out Absentee Ballots

   ~ First day of Early Voting in the Courthouse

No Saturday Early Voting

March 15, 2019 ~ Last day that the Absentee ballots can be mailed

        ~ Last day of Early Voting

March 19,2019  ~ Election for Sheriff and TSPLOST

IMPORTANT    ~ THIS IS A NEW ELECTION CYCLE.  ALL VOTERS WHO WANT TO VOTE BY ABSENTEE MAIL OUT BALLOTS MUST SUBMIT A NEW APPLICATION!

      ~ After you fill out a new application you can request to be put on a rollover list.  This list is for the Elderly, Disabled, and Military only. The rollover list includes one whole election cycle (General Primary, General Primary Runoff, General Election, General Election Runoff).  If you are on the Rollover list you do not have to reapply each election.

     ~ Make sure to fill out all information on the applications!

Sheriff Election info.

Qualifying will be at the Board of Election’s office Feb. 6-8th. Fees are $1,779.86. All parties will be on the same ballot. You can choose a party or choose to be independent. This is not a primary election. A winner will be selected by a 50% plus one vote.

THERE WAS A CORRECTION FROM THE LAST POSTING AS THE BOARD OF ELECTIONS MADE CLARIFICATIONS OF THESE ITEMS WITH THE SECRETARY OF STATE’S OFFICE.

TSPLOST (Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) Referendum info.

Section 48-8-121 (b) …authorizes uses of the tax proceeds shall include

  1. Acquisition of rights of way for roads, streets, bridges, sidewalks, and bicycle paths
  2. Construction of the same
  3. Renovation and improvement of the same
  4. Relocation of the same
  5. Improvement of surface-water drainage from the same
  6. Patching, leveling, milling, widening, shoulder prp, culvert repair, and other repairs necessary for the preservation of the same.
  7. Stormwater capital outlay projects

Funds can be spent on “Transportation purposes”

OCGA 48-8-260(5)

Transportation purposes means and includes roads, bridges, public transit, rails, airports, buses, seaports, including without limitation road, street, and bridge purposes pursuant to paragraph (1) of subsection (b) of Code Section 48-8-121, and all accompanying infrastructure and services necessary to provide access to these transportation facilities, including new general obligation debt and other multiyear obligations issued to finance such purposes.  Such purposes shall also include the retirement of previously incurred general obligation debt with respect only to such purposes, but only if an intergovernmental agreement has been entered into under this part. (FYI- an intergovernmental agreement is signed and agreed to by all city officials which Worth County has completed)

If approved, the TSPLOST will go into effect July 1st 2019.

The percentage amount will be given at a later date.
